DESCRIPTION

Day Trip to Normandy from Paris

Explore the beautiful countryside of Normandy on a full-day tour of the D-Day landing sites. Discover the rich history and traditions of Normandy at the Calvados farm.

From Paris, this tour will take you to areas of historical battlefields and landing beaches, including the Utah Beach Museum, which is located in a former German bunker on the beach where the first American soldiers landed. You will be able to learn about the complicated planning behind Operation Overlord and listen to the touching stories of ordinary men and women whose actions shaped the face of Europe as we know it today. In addition to offering exceptional views over Utah Beach, the museum also houses one of the last remaining B-26s in the world.

The next stop of the day tour will be at a traditional cider-making orchard, where you will taste the ciders and Calvados (apple brandy) typical to the region in a 17th-century barn. After that, enjoy a Norman-style lunch of freshly prepared seasonal products in a restaurant overlooking the port of Grandcamp Maisy.

The trip will continue with a drive to Pointe du Hoc. While being there, you will see the German cliff-top defense that US Rangers heroically took during the D-Day landings. The site remains as it was over half a century ago, with original German fortifications and the crater scars of bombs.

You will have a chance to pay your respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery at Colleville-Sur-Mer, which is located on a cliff overlooking Omaha Beach. A Medal of Honor recipient and son of President Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., is buried here, along with nearly 10,000 soldiers.

DOS & DON’TS when visiting the Normandy region

DON’T forget to pay your respect at the Normandy American Cemetery.

The main focus of a Normandy day trip is the famous American Cemetery which is situated in Colleville-sur-Mer. Nearly 10,000 American soldiers who died fighting in Normandy are laid to rest in this peaceful cemetery.

Do visit the Memorial Museum.

A small museum located right next to the cemetery offers displays of military vehicles, uniforms, and even objects of civilians from the war battles. The museum entrance has an infinity pool that leads to a beach where you can reflect on what happened there.

DO stroll around german bunkers at Pointe Du Hoc.

One of the main reasons you must visit Pointe Du Hoc is because today’s battle site looks the same as it did on June 6, 1944. Other sites, including Juno Beach, were cleaned up, and gruesome German bunkers were destroyed. But at Pointe Du Hoc, you can enter the bunkers and walk through the big craters made by the bombing of the ground.

DON’T miss the chance to see “The Brave” monument.

At the west end of Omaha Beach, you will find an impressive sculpture called “The Brave.” The artist, Anilore Banon, said that he created this to honor the courage of the sons, fathers, and husbands who faced danger during World War II.

DO go on a guided Normandy day trip from Paris.

Going on a guided day trip to Normandy is the best way to fully understand the history behind all those important war sites you’ll be visiting.

Amazing tour guides!

What a wonderful day! It was quite long, but with the help of Melissa and David (our tour guides), it was very informative and fun. There is so much to see, and they helped us to explore it all. They were both very knowledgeable about the history that led up to the Normandy invasion and the invasion itself. I would recommend this day trip to anyone who wants to learn more about the history of the USA. You will have an even better time if you get Melissa and David to guide you.

The best Normandy day trip from Paris!

We enjoyed every minute of our day tour with John. He was very knowledgeable about everything we saw, and it was entertaining listening to him. Utah Beach and the museum were amazing, and so was Pointe du Hoc. We really enjoyed learning and tasting at the cider farm - such a sweet owner and beautiful place! We highly recommend visiting Normandy!
